From 1 June 2026, all employees under PERKESO will be covered by Skim LINDUNG 24 Jam, a scheme that protects workers against accidents that happen outside of work. But covered does not mean everything. As an employer, understanding exactly what qualifies and what does not will save you from misinformed staff expectations and potential disputes down the line.

The scheme covers accidents that are personal in nature and have no direct connection to the employee's job or employment. This includes road accidents during personal travel, injuries at home, and other non-work incidents that occur within Malaysia outside of working hours. Both local and foreign employees are protected, and there is no age limit as long as the person remains employed with you.

What the scheme does not cover is equally important to communicate. Accidents that happen while the employee is performing work duties are already covered under the existing Skim Bencana Pekerjaan, so LINDUNG 24 Jam does not apply there....f is that the protection only holds if the worker's immigration status is in order. An expired permit or a permit violation removes the coverage, which means your foreign employees need to be reminded to keep their documents current.

For claims, employees submit through the LINDUNG Faedah portal at lindungfaedah.perkeso.gov.my or at any PERKESO branch, supported by documents such as a police report or medical certificate. Benefits available include medical expenses, temporary and permanent disability payments, dependant benefits, and funeral assistance among others.
