The Companies Commission of Malaysia issued Practice Directive No. 11/2026 on 14 July 2026, introducing a new requirement for companies to update their shareholder and share capital information. This applies to local companies that have more than one type of share, and to all foreign companies registered with SSM.

Companies covered by this directive must submit two forms before they can use certain services on SSM's online system, known as the Corporate Registry System. The first form covers the company's share capital, such as the types of shares issued and the voting rights attached to them. The second form covers details of each shareholder, including their identification and how many shares they hold. Both forms must be submitted in person at SSM's Head Office or any of its State Offices.

This requirement is linked to nine specific services on the Corporate Registry System. These include updating the register of members, allotting new shares, changing share capital, and reducing share capital. Companies will not be able to use any of these services until the required information has been submitted to SSM.

Companies have six months to complete this, starting from 14 July 2026 until 14 January 2027. SSM may extend this deadline if needed. There is no fee for submitting this information.
